The event was packed out, reflecting the level of pride and interest in one of Ireland's most inspiring figures. Mary spoke eloquently, shared some sage advice and responded to questions about her life, her career and her vision.
Her run for Ireland’s first female Presidency spurred on a nation and in particular the Mná na hÉireann “who instead of rocking the cradle rocked the system”. As President, then UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and subsequently a founding member of The Elders she has fought and negotiated for human rights and climate justice and so much more. She discussed the power of symbols, the power of emotion, the importance of listening and feminine leadership. With Project Dandelion she continues to act and advocate for the future of our planet.
Her overriding message is one of hope and the importance of community and acting from the heart. She left us with the word “Ubuntu”. It means humanity to others – I am what I am because of who we all are.
